jam build goals


this game is a submission to Portland Indie Game Squad's Summer Slow Jams 2023: Narrative. i've just shared the following message on their Discord.

with 1½ days left in the jam, here's a status update from me. i think i have pretty much all the content i need for a jam build. something done in such a short time doesn't have to be a 'finished' game - i'm going more for a 'vertical slice'. it would be nice to fit one more quest in the game though, so that the planned narrative elements could shine better. a 4-minute playthrough of the current version can be found at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZYLxD3tAxE&list=PLSxTx6C044qNgoyiLSQ8sHRtxoXIj7cD7&index=4

after releasing the second playtest build, i've received multiple bug reports about collision issues - mainly clipping to out-of-bounds areas. these are a top priority for me to fix in the next version. there's also been common quality-of-life requests such as being able to stand on ladders. i still have ample time to polish the current experience some more.

i'm pretty convinced i'll continue working on this game after the jam. i'm having a lot of fun with it, and the main mechanic has potential for a game that lasts hours rather than minutes. but what's there now is a nice self-contained prototype, it just needs the collision issues fixed.

i can already say i'm glad i participated in this jam!
