first playtest build!

hello everyone, i'm back with a new game, where you're a cat collecting vases.

what's in here is about a week's worth of work. you can probably beat it in like two minutes as it is, but it works as a vertical slice of the features i have in place.

it turns out it still isn't easy to make a game even when it's entirely tile-based. sure, i don't have to worry about real-time collisions and such, but there's already quite complex logic behind the scenes in such a little game. it's like every time i playtest it, another little bug pops up somewhere. :B especially with the textbox telling you what commands are available, grr.

my plan for this is to be a collecting/exploration game, with a hub world and several routes to choose from, and multiple types of objects to collect. you might even meet other characters along the way!

in the short time i've been developing this, the game has already gone through a major UI rework. previously there were these lines pointing at objects, showing the necessary information. however, i got feedback that it was distracting, and with the suggestion of my friend BORB, the UI got simplified to show only silhouettes and numbers.

comparing the above two images, the new UI is clearly the way to go.

---

so what's next for the game? well, i have a Github page that i'm trying to keep up-to-date with issues i'm working on: https://github.com/verysoftwares/Vase/issues

look forward to new updates pretty soon! January is a pretty hectic month with many game jams, but i do have some leeway to work on Vase.
