post-mortem


so i participated in the 7-day Bullet Hell Jam. it was one of the most fun jams i've ever been in, and since i'm nearing 30 jams that's saying something.

i had a methodical update system for my game. 1a-1c to 2a-2c to 3. let's look at them piece by piece.

1BUTTERF-1a.lua was just the first battle, with pixel-perfect collisions working. the signature move was too difficult at this time.

1BUTTERF-1b.lua introduced the overworld. and there were dialogue options


in 1BUTTERF-1c.lua i started pouring more effort to the UI and introduced 2 new encounters as well as rudimentary sound effects. 


1BUTTERF-2a.lua introduced 1 new encounter and some rebalancing of earlier ones. (encounters still missing sprites tho)


by the time i got to 1BUTTERF-2b.lua i had a script system in place that enabled me to add more encounters easily. also music was added.


1BUTTERF-2c.lua was only missing the last area anymore.

1BUTTERF-3.lua was the finished game with the final boss (no spoilers) and all encounter sprites.

everything went quite smoothly in the jam. i had so much fun in these 7 days, and i hope people playing the game did too!
